THE WEATHERMAN THREW US A CURVE, BUT THE FIREWORKS CAME OFF GREAT!
Mother Nature's own fireworks show began two hours before our show, which unfortunately prevented the United States Army Field Band & Chorus from performing.
But the fireworks show everyone came to see happened right on time - and without rain.
The HVFF Committee and CERT members put up the fencing on Wednesday evening.
Many hands made light work - Hundreds of feet of fencing were put up in less than two hours!
With a favorable nighttime forecast at 3:00 on Friday afternoon, the colors were raised and the event was on.
The vendors were all in place by 5 o'clock.
Hamden CERT was on the job.

The Soldiers' Chorus rehearsed a cappella. Magnificent! (We was robbed by Mother Nature!)
Around 7 it began to get very dark. What was supposed to stay in northern Connecticut decided to visit Hamden.
The musicians covered everything with tarps - and then the sky opened up.
Thunder & lightning everywhere. People sought refuge in Miller Library, tents, their cars, and even port-a-potties!
The stalwart fireworks fans re-emerged onto the field as the rain subsided - and finally ended. BRAVO!
The generous 50-50 Raffle ticket buyers who were unable to be present for the 9 o'clock drawing should have no regrets. The first ticket drawn - one that was actually purchased very early - resulted in a winner.
Matt Fitch pulled out the winning ticket - 003096.
The lucky winner of the 50-50 raffle was Justin Garvey of Hamden, who picked up $192.00.

Right after the drawing, the rain-delayed festivities resumed with DJ Bry getting everyone on their feet . . .
. . . for the Village People's "Y-M-C-A" (just like at the ballpark).
The many tenacious folks who stuck it out were rewarded with a fine fireworks show, accompanied by DJ Bry's classic patriotic recordings and NO RAIN!
